Printing to the Parallel Port on a Siemens SpeedStream SS2623 Using a Modern OS
I needed to connect a printer that takes a parallel cable to a Windows 7 box that does not have a parallel port, but is connected to a Siemens SpeedStream SS2623 router / print server.
It turns out to be possible and relatively easy, but nearly undocumented:
- The SpeedStream Hardware is very similar to SMC Barricade hardware. These instructions walk you step by step through the process for the SMC hardware.
- Those instructions report the wrong router/print server IP address. The speedstream that I was working with has its print server at 192.168.254.254
- With that change, otherwise following the instructions verbatim will get the SpeedStream printing on Windows XP.
- Windows 7 will try to autodetect the TCP/IP port; fail; declare that "additional port information is needed" and offer you a choice. Select "Custom" and click settings. This will display a key dialog box that is quite similar to the one pictured in the SMC documentation.
